Get the Best PS3 Bundles and Save Money
63The Playstation 3 is a great system with some great games, but it is not cheap. Things start adding up quickly, and you soon find yourself either broke, or unable to play the games you want or have the accessories you need. Here's some guidelines and things to look for so you get the most from your PS3.
PS3 bundles
PS3 bundles are a great way to save money and get a lot for your dollar. There are currently several PS3 controller bundles that are a great deal. You can buy a controller with a game bundled together for $60. The controller by itself is usually $50, and new games are often in the $50-60 range as well. So you are essentially buying a controller and getting the game for $10, which is an incredibly good deal. Fortunately, these PS3 bundles also pack some great games including Killzone 2, Infamous, and LittleBigPlanet. All are great games that have very high ratings across the board, so if you don't have them and need an extra controller, you really can't go wrong with one of these PS3 bundles.
If you don't already own a PS3, or you have decided to upgrade to the PS3 slim, there are some great deals that include the PS3, and selected games or even the upcoming Move with the motion controller system all included.
Read Reviews
Playstation 3 game reviews abound on the internet, but it is really easy just to pick up a game at the store because the cover looks cool. Don't do it! I know this sounds elementary, but you'll be saving yourself a lot of headaches and buyer's remorse from researching your game purchases before you buy.
Use the Playstation Network for Games and Demos
Besides reading reviews, you should download and play many of the free demos that are available at the Playstation Store on the Playstation Network. Even if a game has gotten great reviews, it may still not be your style. Better to check it out for yourself and see if you like it. I've been saved from a few purchases that I probably would have regretted by doing this.
The Playstation Network is also home to some great downloadable games that are often much cheaper than the disc-based games you can find in stores. After doing a little research, you may find some real gems that will be just as fun as a regular disc-based game for a fraction of the cost.
Sign Up for Playstation Plus
Playstation Plus is a brand new service being offered that promises monthly free games, avatars, and other goodies to subscribers. You can save a ton of money with the discounts and free stuff that will quickly add up to more than the subscription cost. I was skeptical about the service at first, but soon saw that it was definitely a worthwhile thing to invest in as a regular gamer that wants to save money and get some great content.
Use game trading services
There are many ways to trade games, sell games, and buy used games online and offline. I have found the best service available to trade games is Goozex. Goozex allows for you to keep much more value that you would normally get if you sell your game back to a game store like Gamestop. I would highly recommend it. I have cleaned out a lot of my old games, even from older systems like the Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, and PS2, trading them for points which in return have netted me over 5 PS3 games. Since I bought those older games such a long time ago, it was almost as if I was getting my PS3 games for free! Give Goozex a try here.
Use your PS3 with your existing media
Don't forget that the PS3 is a great home media center. DVDs, Blu-Ray, Music, Movies, and Pictures can all be handled with ease. By using your PS3 in tandem with the media that you already own, you'll be getting a lot more from your system and will likely be less tempted to just buy game after game, which will add up very quickly.

Great information. Thanks!
I haven't bought a PS3 myself yet but I was planning to. The bundles are certainly a very good deal, more bang for your buck, so to speak.
I'm a big fan of my PS3. It makes a great BluRay player and I can get my MGS4 on any time I want. That = quality buy in my book :)
I would love to get a PS3 because there are a lot of PlayStation exclusive games that get released (such as pretty much anything that comes out of Japan). I don't understand people who own a PC and then buy an Xbox... seems counterproductive seeing as all the Xbox games also come out on PC. ANYHOO. :P I'll definitely be getting a bundle deal to save some cash. Thanks for the hub!

Bah! I wish I could afford a PS3 right now! I'd even buy it from your amazon affiliate link.
Hub up for making me lust after material things . . .
